The Red Hot Chili Peppers - Blood Sugar Sex Magik
(Warner Bros.; 1991)

When it comes to The Red Hot Chili Peppers, there is simply only one word that comes to mind: versatile. A mixture of funk, rap, alternative rock and psychedelia, The RHCP had a unique, unparallelled sound. Blood Sugar Sex Magik is the last time The RHCP would strike the perfect balance of that extremely versatile mix.
Based in Los Angeles, The RHCP became known for their fascination with Native American culture, their notorious onstage antics and their powerful sexual imagery.
Blood Sugar Sex Magik features a number of singles (“Suck My Kiss,” “Give It Away,” “Under the Bridge,” “Breaking the Girl”) that have become iconic RHCP songs.
The success that followed Blood Sugar Sex Magik would not leave the band unscathed. Guitarist John Frusciante left the band mid-tour, leaving a gaping hole in the line-up. In the end, the album would never be matched by The RHCP and the band would begin to move towards a more alternative rock – and radio-friendly - style.
