Seabear - We Built A Fire
(Morr Music; 2010)
7.5/10
Complete with acoustic guitar and trumpet, Seabear’s fourth album, We Built A Fire, is a soothing compilation of indie-folk-pop melodies. This seven-member band hails from Reykjavík, Iceland, and may be familiar since they’ve been featured on the soundtracks for Finding Neverland and Gossip Girl.
Like Montreal band Stars, Seabear’s use of both male and female vocals creates an engaging, warm sound.
Seabear’s strength comes from the diverse range of instruments arranged for each song. Each instrument offers a slight variation of sound, but each track still conforms to the overall style of Seabear’s brand of indie-folk-pop.
Some of the softer tracks of the album, like “Lion Face Boy,” are simply peaceful. Others, like “In Winters Eyes,” pick up the pace and make the album slightly more lively. However, each track shares the same melodic voices and serene rhythms, creating a uniquely pleasant listening experience.
