Newly appointed Board refuses to hear election challenge

The CSU's Judicial Board rejected an appeal Sunday of a challenge filed by two students who took issue with the November by-election. Tristan Teixtera, Chair of the Judicial Board, said the Board refused to entertain the contestation because not only had it been filed too late but also, Daniel McSharry and Chadi Marouf were contesting the election itself.

CUSSU protest shuts down student services

Concordia University's support staff walked off the job for four hours last Monday, causing most student services to grind to a halt. Students trying to buy books for the start of school were surprised to find bookstore doors locked on both campuses. The 450-member Concordia University Support Staff Union (CUSSU) were protesting the fact that they have been without a contract since 2002.

A recent study of future post-secondary enrollment predicts an acute shortage of students for Canada's colleges and universities, unless more non-traditional applicants are drawn into the system. "We wanted to put forward a series of what-if scenarios," said Patrice de Broucker, one of the authors of a Statistics Canada report entitled "Post-secondary Enrollment Trends to 2031: Three Scenarios", co-written by Darcy Hango with the help of the Canadian Council for Learning.
